Celebrating World Book Day across The Partnership Trust

Schoolchildren from across The Partnership Trust, a Multi-Academy Trust in B&NES and Somerset, had great fun celebrating World Book Day last Thursday, 5 March.
Pupils at Hayesdown First School in Frome were inspired by the book, The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt and came dressed in a single colour to represent the crayons in the book. The rest of the day was dedicated to the writing, illustrating and sharing their own stories inspired by the picture book.
At Castle Primary School in Keynsham, celebrations began the evening before with a bedtime story event for Reception and Key Stage One pupils, and a film showing for Key Stage Two. The following day, Castle pupils took part in activities inspired by the 2016 book and film The Wild Robot, including art projects, reflective writing and imaginative tasks that encouraged them to see the world through the robot’s perspective.
Meanwhile, Paulton Infant School celebrated a week of books with buddy reading sessions, a Poetry Slam and a collaborative school fairy tale written by all classes. On World Book Day itself, pupils dressed as their favourite characters, took part in a Story in a Jar competition and enjoyed a book swap before the week concluded with teachers visiting different classes to share stories.
Emily Omell, Headteacher at Paulton Infant School said:
“World Book Week was a wonderful opportunity for pupils at Paulton to celebrate the joy of reading in so many creative ways. From buddy reading and poetry performances to writing our own school fairy tale and our Story in a Jar Competition, the children showed great imagination and enthusiasm for books. We hope these experiences continue to inspire a lifelong love of reading and storytelling for every child.”
