Pupils celebrate Harvest by helping those in need

From Harvest assemblies to food bank collections, pupils across The Partnership Trust’s family of schools in Bath & North East Somerset, and Somerset have been celebrating Harvest and supporting their local communities.

Farmborough Church Primary School near Bath held their Harvest Service in school on 30 September, joined by Revd. David Phillips from All Saints Church. Pupils collected food donations for the charity, Alongside (previously known as Julian House). Farmborough has eight years of partnership with the charity which works with people experiencing social exclusion.

Clare Hanley-Theare from Alongside joined Farmborough at the service and said:

“Thank you to all in the Farmborough Church Primary School Community - thank you for supporting Alongside with your harvest collection. The hostel staff were delighted to receive it and the clients were very excited to spot biscuits and chocolates. I really enjoyed meeting your students and the Foxes class were very engaged.”

Pupils from Weston All Saints Primary School in Bath celebrated Harvest on 8 October, with donations to Weston Welcome Cafe and Food Club.

Marksbury C of E Primary School visited St Peter’s Church in the village for their whole school harvest assembly on 19 October. Pupils from Cameley CEVC Primary School and Nursery in Temple Cloud also held their celebrations in St James’ Church in Cameley.

Meanwhile pupils from Pensford Primary School near Bristol and St Mary’s CofE Primary School and Nursery in Writhlington, Radstock collected donations of non-perishable food items and toiletries for Bath, Keynsham and Somer Valley Foodbank.

Cathie Lampert, Headteacher at St Mary’s said:

“Harvest is a wonderful opportunity for children to learn about gratitude, kindness and helping those in our community who may be experiencing hardship.”

In Frome, children from Hayesdown First School also collected for their local foodbank, Fair Frome, as well as organising a school-wide Harvest Festival assembly.

Pupils from Paulton Infant School held their Harvest celebrations and donated 12 bags and boxes of food items to Paulton Village Larder.
