World Book Day Reunion as Dick King‑Smith’s Family Visits Farmborough School

Pupils at Farmborough Church Primary School near Bath were reunited with the family of their most famous former teacher, children’s author Dick King‑Smith, during a special World Book Day visit on Thursday 5 March.

Mr King-Smith, best known as the writer of The Sheep-Pig, or Babe as it was known in the 1995 film adaptation, taught at Farmborough from 1975 to 1982.

His daughter, Juliet, and grandson, Charlie, visited the school and shared a special slideshow about Dick’s life and writing career, highlighting some of his much‑loved books. They also read extracts from his works Dumpling, Alphabeasts, and Friends and Brothers, before taking questions from the children about Dick and his stories.

Darren Roberts, Headteacher at Farmborough Church Primary School said:

“We were delighted to welcome Juliet and Charlie back to Farmborough to share stories of our much‑loved former teacher. It’s incredibly special for our children to feel such a close connection to a world‑famous author, and I know that meeting Dick King‑Smith’s family has inspired them to deepen their love of reading.”
